About to redecorate a room and was preparing to get a plasterer in to re-skim the walls, but I've discovered loads of blown plaster over what appears to be Artex underneath, on all 4 walls. Some of the plaster just flakes off in massive pieces with just a tap, but in places is adhered better and will require a bit more effort - but I'm worried about disturbing the Artex underneath (possible asbestos) if I have to really chisel it. If it was just the Artex, I'd use that X-Tex stuff, which I've had success with removing Artex in other rooms of the house, but I can't get at the Artex without first removing the skim coat.
What would be the best thing to do? Just re-skimming over it as is will surely store up a future problem; removing all the plaster risks disturbing the Artex, which could contain asbestos. Board it and start over?
