Sealing around sink, toilet

Hi,

I have just finished my first tiling job in my bathroom, walls and floor. I lifted out the toilet and sink and they now sit on top of the tiles, do i have to silicone around the bottom? My dad says i do but i dont see the point in that?

Hygiene factor really as water (or other substances similar to water) could get under the pan, Also when you mop the floor dirty water can get underneath.
