'sealing' emulsion..

I'm going to paint some shelves the same colour as a wall, which is matt emulsion.

What is best to use as a clear coating which will give the shelf a more durable surface? I've used clear varnish in a similar situation previously, but that yellowed.
 
Mix water-based clear varnish with it.
 
It works for me. Done it loads of times.
 
Why not get a suitable hard wearing paint made up to match the emulsion? (Personally I like eggeshell), if you go to Leyland/Dulux Trade centre/Crown trade - they all have colour match systems and will be able to make up an exact match for you.
