As I want to remove an old sink and want to seal off the water pipes, I have bought some Stop Ends from B&Q. The pipes are copper and the stop ends are plastic. It says in the instructions that you just push the stop ends over the pipes.

Do these really work? Wont the pressure of the water push them off?

Yes they work and no they are tested to alot more pressure than the mains into your house.
If they are being capped off for good I would suggest brass compression stop ends.

If you are going to use the push fit cut the pipe with a pipe slice not hack saw as any rough edges will damage the o ring seal.
Also push them on as far as you can then pull back on it until it grips and locks
