Is there any reason why I cannot wire up a standard (normally outdoor) Security Floodlight with PIR sensor INSIDE a garage so as to provide instant light on opening the door from outside at night.

I intend wiring the unit into an already available 13 amp socket.

Many thanks

Or use a separate PIR to control a luminaire of your choice. I have a car port with a bog-standard exterior bulkhead light, controlled via a PIR, which can be isolated separately. So I can have the PIR on or off and also I can switch the light independently. Works a treat.
