self employed no work no income can i claim benefits?

ok two different types of jsa one is based on contributions of N.I. and is available to everyone for a maximum of six months after that its means tested.

You are able to hold £6k without it having any effect of Housing Benefit or Council Tax benefit between 6 and 16k will have an incremental effect on how much youre entitled to on a sliding scale - more savings = less benefit.

You may be entitled to all 3 so its worth applying HB CTB & JSA

You may still be entitled to be in receipt of HB &/or CTB when working as it is means tested and a low overall self emp income (they look at your income over a 6/12 monthly basis) may still qualify.

There are many factors that alter amounts and entitlements single/couple, kids/no kids, age etc etc but if you dont ask you dont get.

benefits are there to help when youre not doing well not to pay for the extra holidays whilst youre earning cash on the side! As long as people use it to get help (like Original poster) when they need it, it will be there for everyone.

Contact Job Centre via phone to make claim for JSA, and contact your local council for HB/CTB claim, the sooner you contact them the quicker you can get help. If you do it today and get a form to them within a month your benefits would start from monday.

Hope that helps a little, and good luck with the work hunt.
