Serviced Boiler stopped working?

Ive posted on here before about my broken boiler which is still broken.

Anyway it was serviced in Dec 2008 by N Power and was passed. No one lives in the house as my nanna has gone into care but we had it serviced. We turned it on in Feb 2009 and it was not working, the piolt light would not light and it was making a horrible loud noise.

I have had 2 engineers out who cant say for sure whats wrong with it. I got on to N Power as I cant see why it would not be working as its not been used they say its not their problem and will send someone out at a charge of £165

What do you think I should do, is it N Powers fault?

More information please. Boiler type, make etc.. £165 for a diagnosis is expensive. I'd like to know why the others didn't help.

Its a Optima 700 serial number 005693 and was installed in 1994

To be honest it could be anything. It is quite old for the make. I don't know the model but I guess that if it is old and has been standing unused then the fan or pump could be jammed.

Question is, was the boiler serviced? Often a 'spring clean' is called a service. In my books, a service is what the makers want done every 12 months which in many cases is minimum requirement.

Have you checked if the pilot is on? If the mains was switched off, pilots on such boilers can often go out.

Not unlike a car that might not start if you just let it sit there for months on end, an old boiler may experience problems.

Do you have any paper that says it has been serviced? A lot of "services" are nothing but a safety check.

Your boiler can not 'pass' a service.
It can be serviced.
It can pass a (safety) test.
Either way a boiler can fail the next day after either of these procedures.
So not anybodys fault, just a boiler.

I missed the bit about the "passed" which would seem to indicate that it was not serviced, but had a safety check.

iam guessing the £165 quoted would be for a fixed price repair

could be anything, does the fan run? is the pump stuck and making it bang n go off on overheat? is the sys pressure around 1bar?
