Setting digital programmer

They vary, but if you follow SFK's plan, you can probably set, say, Sunday like that, then copy it to all the other days and save, then go in and adjust one or more days individually if, say, you always get home early on Friday, or are at home all day on Saturday.

Thanks it mentions a 5/2 setting which I take it is week days and weekends. Is the 24hr one just everyday the same?

Yes, exactly that.

I use the 5|2.
I had weekend on all day and to save money started warming house a bit later in morning. But as I stay up later it does not go off untill midnight (note that I use 23.59 as not sure if 00.00 should be first or last slot).

So for example.

Weekday
06.00. 20 C
08.30. 10 C
12.00. 10 C
13.00. 10 C
17.00. 20 C
23.00. 10 C

Weekend
07.00. 20 C
08.30. 20 C
12.00. 20 C
13.00. 20 C
17.00. 20 C
23.59. 10 C

Yes, exactly that.
I am going to take that back - I think I am wrong.

The instructions say that the 5+2 setting gives you "12 settings per week" and the 24hr setting gives you "42 settings per week".

I now read that as meaning that for the 24hr programme you can set the 6 slots differently for each and every day of the week.

My maths:
5 + 2 programme:
6 settings per day for all weekdays + 6 settings per day for all weekend days = '12 settings per week'

24hr programme:
6 settings per day x 7 days = '42 settings per week'

Thanks and how is it best of leaving when go away for a few days? Frost stat? Holiday mode?

Check your home insurance. Pretty sure they will also have an advice booklet or webpage on winter protection

I found 12C pretty good. House dry and comfortable, did not feel chilly when you went in. (This was a second home)
12 degrees constant the boiler will come one ever time to temperature drops below 12 degrees?
