Seventeen - or not?

So, we can now install to 16th or 17th for a few months.....



But what do we test to with regards PIR's?

Got several next week to do. Shall have to look at the faults and then decide if they fall under both, one, or the other!

My view is that PIR's should still be done to the 16th until the 17th is fully implemented in the summer.

As for installations, my view is that any new works should be done to the 17th as soon as possible or the customer should be given the option to postpone the works.

1) As soon as possible is right now.

2) If you've won some business, why (in your right mind) would you suggest delaying it for 6 months?

3) How many customers could intelligently discuss the differences between the 16th and the 17th, and make a decision on what they want you to do?

I have looked over the 17th, and the issue with burried cables is unfortuneatly true.

All conceiled cables must have RCD protection regardless of zoning unless the installation is under the control of a skilled or instructed person. Need to look at the BS7671 deffinition of skilled or instructed person.

So if I have understood this correctly :

..where the installation is not intended to be under the supervision of a skilled or instructed person if the normal methods of protection including use of cables with an earthed metallic covering, earthed conduit/trunking or mechanical protection cannot be employed.

There is now a provision for non 'Competent persons' (rather than incompetent!) to do 1st fix provided suitable RCB/ RCBO protection is in place.

Obviously this doesn't change anything in terms of requirtement to notify etc, but it might be useful to me right now
(background) as I have a couple of rooms that are chased and plastered (Kitchen in particular) that although I have photos for, I expecting that I would have to strip out - LBC may on this basis be happy to take a view.

Does this mean freezer radials will need to use a 32A ceeform connector?

I asked my LABC if I should work to the 17th for my house alterations. They said I should work to the 16th. Probably just as well for me as all I know about the 17th is what I have read here...

All I can say is that I read the dpc.

It mentioned rcd protection for all circuits where cables outside safe zones could not be given adequate protection. I cannot remember whether rcd protection was mooted as well as siting in SZ's.
