It has insulating & arc-quenching capabilities...sounds very nasty, but is non-toxic.

There are 3 compounds used for fluoridation:

Sodium Fluoride.

Sodium Fluorosilicate.

Fluorosilicic Acid.

The 3rd is classified as hazardous waste, but that's another thread...

Do you work for SP or should i say EN, or should i say IBERDROLA........securespark, I install the switchgear with SF6 in it, and what flameport says is bang on, its not dangerous in the quantities used in the switchgear. thats what the men in the know tell us anyway.......However when the switchgear has exploded it creates a nice white powder that is apparently an acid that seeks calcium (bones), so when the powder gets wet and onto the skin, it can be very nasty indeed....

an acid that seeks out bone.......... that sounds like HF to me. Since there are so many hydrogen compounds arround it wouldn't surprise me if

apparently an acid that seeks calcium (bones):

The most basic knowledge of chemistry (let alone the odd a level and degree) says that is not possible - the acid is only "seeking" an alkali / water - it's an acid after all...
