Sorry folks but yet another shed question. I’m happy to get Bldg Control to check it out and test it as it’d still be cheaper than getting in a sparks and I’d enjoy doing the work as I’m thinking of getting some proper electrical qualifications in years to come when my current contract expires. To stop me looking a complete plonker can you folks double check my figures.

I’m looking at an MK Garage box with 40A 30mA RCD protection for a 16A MCB for radial power circuit consisting of two double switched 13A socket outlets which I doubt would ever take more than 2kW between them and a 6A MCB for the lighting radial taking a maximum of six 100W BC bulkhead lights – all run as singles in PVC conduit. The MK garage box would be run as a sub-main from a spare way in the main consumer unit total length about 15metres. The main consumer unit is not split load so the new shed supply would only have RCD protection for that part within the shed.

I’m looking at a 30/32A MCB in the main consumer unit to protect the garage box with its own 16A & 6A MCB’s

Keeping as my old college said “cable as king” I’d need to run the sub-main in 4mm2 T&E through the loft then join to 4mm 3 core SWA (which takes 34A) inside before I go through the wall and underground to the shed. Total run is 15m so voltage drop would be within limits when clipped direct; it’s not with any other cables and isn’t run through any insulation.

Any comments anyone – calculations look OK?
