Should be simple? change inline smart switch

Oh, I already wired it... The advice here was bang on 100%... I'm usually pretty good at wiring things, but this thing confused me, didnt think to join neutrals....it just worked straight away... and it's got a smooth on and off... with the other switch, if I said " alexa turn light to 50% " it would come on at 100% then jump to 50%,

this is smooth
comes on to what % you say...and module paired in 10 seconds...
I just cut the extra copper wire so it all fits in the terminals, and screwed it down , then its up high, double sided taped down to the light fuse box so its solid
I mean, its high and no one here touches my stuff, no kids etc.

And I have a lot of smart things in the house
a lot of the other lights are actual smart bulbs. It's so much simpler than all this...

But if you look around a lot of the GU 10 smart bulbs, the lumens are very low... these bulbs are very bright

That’s not good enough, it needs to be in a box. (The previous one should also have been in a box.)

If I were you, I’d fit an additional surface-mount box to the left of the existing one. Or maybe fit a dual one like this to fit both the fuse and the module:

Dual 37mm Surface Box - White | BG (909-01)

Or maybe it would fit behind the fuse unit, if you fitted a deeper box?

I just don't know if there's enough slack on the wires. I don't want to start taking the trunking up.

What difference does it make if I just leave it like that
there is no live exposed?

Having said that, I'm just glad it's working.. really cannot be dealing with super bright lights all of the time. I think it's important to have dimmable functions.

Having it looking like it's precariously balanced on the edge of the fused spur wouldn't be my definition of neat.

I suppose I could try to fit it in the fuse box because it seems big enough but

I don't think the fused spur box will be big enough as it is, if you buy this and replace the back box I think it'll fit though. Are those wires coming out of the spur or out of the trunking? If they're out of the trunking, I'd recommend repositioning the spur box so it is tight up against the trunking, the wires are then contained within trunking or box without being able to be touched.

Happy to help with any advice you might need but we've done you the favour of getting it working, now repay it by making it safe please.

the screws push down far so it cant be touched

I think the wires come a little out of the trunking. I remember the ELECTRICIAN didn't really want to fit this in the first place, but he did in the end.... probably because of the same reasons that you guys are talking about

specifically mean as in you guys are saying it should've been in the box before. I mean, nobody's gonna go up there and touch it apart from me so it is safe. I understand the logic of what you guys are saying hundred percent but if I'm the only person that has access to that room, how can anything thing happen?

Reminds me, I went to somebody's house and they literally had wires coming out of their iron plug.. not the copper bit but the actual blue and green covers.... so I know what you mean

Well, let's just do it properly... so I will just try to find some type of smaller box that can contain it I just don't want a big box like the fuse spur.
Or maybe some type of plastic housing that just covers the wires and the module. I can literally make one.

So if it's all covered and solid, it's safe.

any opinions?

The fused spur is already there, I'm just proposing you change the back of it for a slightly deeper one

Oh ok... so just change the old one , put module in there with wires hidden...this should work...50mm?

You can get them for about a quid in Screwfix, but yes.
