WHO - Miserably delayed alerting the world about Covid. England gives them billions I believe.

UN - 5 Permanent members - It's a lame-duck just like WHO, what is the point??

NATO - 30 countries and more wanting to join. That is too many and a lot of room for a WW.
Just look at the EU, left behind with the vacines as too many leaders to please and the argue over laws etc.
The 30 group
  • Canada (1949)
  • Croatia (2009)
  • France (1949)
  • Germany (1955)
  • Greece (1952)
  • Hungary (1999)
  • Czech Republic (1999)
  • Denmark (1949)
  • Estonia (2004)
  • Albania (2009)
  • Belgium (1949)
  • Bulgaria (2004)
  • Iceland (1949)
  • Luxembourg (1949)
  • Montenegro (2017)
  • Netherlands (1949)
  • Italy (1949)
  • Latvia (2004)
  • Lithuania (2004)
  • North Macedonia (2020)
  • Norway (1949)
  • Poland (1999)
  • Slovakia (2004)
  • United Kingdom (1949)
  • Portugal (1949)
  • Romania (2004)
  • United States (1949)
  • Slovenia (2004)
  • Spain (1982)
  • Turkey (1952)
Some of the above countries are maverick do we really need to go to war on their behlaf??
As an Island nation and the armed forces we have and the nukes we are safer without them IMO

Thanks

With out the USA it would probably all fall apart and be of no consequence ???

Nato

A run down on it. Troop placements are interesting and costs in different areas.

Trump changed it and it seems Biden has announced a huge increase in defence spending. Some countries choose to remain neutral

This is probably the most accurate account of why NATO formed initially
The organization was created after the Second World War to limit to sphere of influence of the Soviet Union (which later disintegrated). NATO was the first peacetime military alliance the United States entered into outside of the western hemisphere.

The official one which isn't any different really
The North Atlantic Alliance was founded in the aftermath of the Second World War. Its purpose was to secure peace in Europe, to promote cooperation among its members and to guard their freedom – all of this in the context of countering the threat posed at the time by the Soviet Union. The Alliance’s founding treaty was signed in Washington in 1949 by a dozen European and North American countries. It commits the Allies to democracy, individual liberty and the rule of law, as well as to peaceful resolution of disputes. Importantly, the treaty sets out the idea of collective defence, meaning that an attack against one Ally is considered as an attack against all Allies. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization – or NATO – ensures that the security of its European member countries is inseparably linked to that of its North American member countries. The Organization also provides a unique forum for dialogue and cooperation across the Atlantic.

What it means really is that if Russia took on Europe they would be taking on the USA and others as well. UK at one point was sending Russia gear to take on the Germans. It didn't take them long to produce their own and rather a lot of it. Different doctrine as well. Communism as it was isn't good for business. There was far more interest in this sort of thing earlier in the 20thC even anarchy.

This figures too. The USA was rich after WWII. Levelling up big time.

And there was me thinking that it was the UK in NATO and not England
France left NATO for decades officially but unofficially when NATO had exercises they used to send troops in with belguims contingent

So UK leaves NATO and is big enough, and strong enough, to stand up to anyone else, including Russia, if someone decides to declare war against us?

If the UK leaves NATO, Scotland Northern Ireland and maybe Wales will be emboldened to pursue their agendas.

Blup

The only question is, if Russia attacks the UK, do we use Nuclear weapons?

If so, the World is screwed.

Not totally sure about this but at one point we didn't own our nuke warheads. The USA did and kept them for us so they had to be picked up before a cruise and dropped back after. Storage would bound to have been in Scotland.

The USA needed airbases all over the place early on as it was the only way to deliver nukes.

Do you have a sort of random thread generator, you know, like you can do for anagrams. The **** you start on here...

We've already been attacked, invaded and overrun, and no-one was interested!

Even if we do not leave NATO my fear has always been for some reason the majority vote for Scottish independence having forgotten the
lies about how oil was going to fund that. Then as expected they quickly go bankrupt and the likes of China/Russia/Iran offer to buy them out in return for naval/military bases and infrastructure and before Then we have a min Scotcubanish crisis.

Bottom line England is better off out of NATO.

Just going to check the wire re Turkeys and Ukraine's statement to see if it has materilised
