Should I paint on Veneered Walnut effect MDF to match color?

Dear all,

I am totally new to this forum and a dummy diyer. I recently bought a veneered Walnut effect MDF panel board online. It is delivered today; however I realized the color and texture of the panels do not match the cabinet I have. The one I have is bit darker and shinier.

Could you please let me know what I can do to make the color to the panel look similar to the color of the cabinets? Should I apply a layer of paint (varnish, stains) to the board?
