Should my pilot light be constantly on?

Should my pilot light be constantly on? At the moment... it isnt,its going out about every 40 mins.

Im slightly worried about this but the landlord doesnt seem too bothered?

Advise would be good

Make and model of boiler along with a better description of whats happening would help.
