Shower compression joint problem

I can pass on a sure-fire way to make that joint watertight. Tighten the olive/ring onto the pipe by spanner and the back it off. Wind a twiff of hemp onto the ring edge fore and aft before a thin smear of boss white or similar and then retighten up the joint .. ., voila, you have a watertight joint. That method works on the old cap-and-lining principal of lead piping and in those days plumbers were actually plumbers.

I did the panels & was bloody careful with them. :D No metal.tools were used by me in the vicinity of the pipes.

If trying tape then suggest you get gas PTFE - much thicker and will bridge the gap around the olive better.
