Hi I have the following downstairs bathroom that needs to be fitted. The shower area is recessed about 30mm, sand filled with a large waste pipe. Guessing the recess can be topped up with more sand then compacted and then the shower trap waste fed into this?

Another question I have is that I have seen vapour barrier sheets installed around the shower area- is this worth doing?

Thanks in advance.

Yes.

I've never used anything like that.

So do I need to use that membrane? I’ve seen boards about 5mm thick and flexible sheets as well…wanted to make sure I do whatever is needed before tiling

Hi again, does the shower tray need to sit on a sand and cement mix? I originally thought a compacted base of building sand was ok but reading a lot of posts about sand and cement mix? Guessing the mix will stop movement but a compacted sand option may allow movement?

Any advice appreciated thanks.

Not just sand, use a flexible tile adhesive.

So use the adhesive where the tray meets the floor tiles and fill the void with building sand?

I'd screed the floor with a weak mortar mix, then adhesive when the screed is dry.

Also with the suite I have these waste traps for the shower tray. But my issue is that there is no U bend so potentially the smell flowing up the pipe. Have I got the wrong shower waste? The U bend I’ve ordered just doesn’t work as the fitments are the wrong way? Thanks for any advice…
