Evening,

Recently moved into an old bungalow. Not entirely sure how old it is but its the gate lodge for an estate and the main house was built in the 1700's. The bathroom has that horrible non slip flooring and a level access shower in it currently.

I've been noticing a drain smell in the bathroom ever since I moved in until last night when I realised there's a cold breeze coming up the shower drain. This drain empties into a gully outside. Is there anything I can do to stop the cold air (and presumably anything else that gets the notion) coming up the drain?

I'm renting so taking the shower tray up to look at it further isn't an option I'm afraid.

There should still be a trap on the waste - try pouring water down and see if it stops the breeze - it may be that the water in the trap has evaporated.

Gave that a go and still got a cold breeze coming up the drain. Sounds like there is no trap?

Is this something that would be difficult to rectify?

It sounds like no trap.

How much external pipework is there?
Is any of the external pipework horizontal?
