Shower extractor - limitations on output vent?

Hi,

I want to fit a shower extractor fan in the ceiling of my bathroom. As it's going up into the roofspace, the most obvious exit point seems to be the soffit.

I downloaded the instructions for the vent but the only diagram shows the vent exiting horizontally through a wall. The instructions don't really comment on whether there's another option.

Can I vent through the soffit, effectively a downward-facing exit? Am I wrong to assume the fan will have enough power to override any tendency for the warm vapour to rise back into the vent?

Or if I can't do it this way, what are my options?

you can or you could consider extracting through roof.

That would be my preferred option if the roof wasn't covered in solar panels! I'll go for the soffit, thanks for response.

If the duct length is more than a couple of metres you should go for a centrifugal fan.

Axial fans are pants with long duct lengths, some can only just about push air through a cavity wall. (No names)
