We've got a Worcester 24i Junior which was installed about 2 years ago. Since last week the temperature in the shower has been fluctuating quite a lot.

I thought it might be the pressure as this was at 0.3 bar so I topped it back up to 1.2 but its still happening.

When somebodiy is having a shower the combi boiler works like normal for 20-30 seconds, then all off a sudden it switches itself off. It then goes into a cycle of on (for about 2 seconds) and off (for about 10 seconds) which means the water never really gets very hot.

Sometimes when it turns off it makes a pretty worrying noise, almost like a loud bang or a crunch with lots of gurgling.

The hot water from the sink and kitchen taps seem to be fine.

Any ideas what this could be? Ive read through the forum a bit and tried some of the suggestions (like running the cold tap) but nothing works :?

Many thanks,

Just checked the showerhead and it looks fine, no scale buildup.

Ive just checked the taps again too in the bath+sink again and it turns out that they are actually doing the same thing, running hot then cold.
:?

Do you live in a hard water area? If so the HW pipe through the heat exchanger may have scaled up.

Also check the cold inlet filter is clean and the flow switch.

Weve just had a engineer out and hes said that it is indeed a scaled up heat exchanger (we do live in a HW area). Apparently we have to have a chemical added to the system to clear it out then the system drained and refilled.

I will depend on which side of the HE he is talking about.

System side blocked will need different chemicals to the domestic side scaled up.

how did he diagnose that fault? what did he do??

I dont know, I wasnt in the room. All I know is that he took the front of the boiler off and had a poke round then ran some of the taps + shower round the flat.
