Shower project help(stud wall)

Im going to be ripping out my old tiles in my shower and replacing them with nice new ones

A couple people have been around to look at a couple thing and one thing all them noticed is that the built up shelf in my shower is BAD. Its got no slope on it and collects water.



So what i was going to do while i had all the tiles off is put some marine ply (think thats the right stuff to use) in with some 2x2 behind it so the shower is totally square.

But i do find the shelf quite useful so a tiler that came around said i could build somthing like this.....with abit of a slope in the squares so the water runs off.



Just not sure how best to go about doing it

Joiner?, use aqua panel instead of marine ply.
