Hi, I hope someone can help. I recently had a new bathroom installed and had a new shower pump fitted. For some reason the pump will run for a couple of seconds when taps in the house are turned off. It does not happen 100% of the time but is very annoying and I am concerned it is running when dry.

Thanks

Stuart

Air in pipe between pump and shower.
Shockwave created when a tap is turned off sharply is enough to compress the air in the pipe by forcing a bit of water through the pump (which turns it on momentarily).

Do you have an inverted 'U' shape in the shower pipework that would collect air? Or you may have some air trapped in the pump. Either way it must be removed. Pump instructions may describe how to it by removing the outlets from the onward pipework and running the pump into a bucket, or a shallow tray. (I use an oven tray when Mrs Echoes isn't looking)

Not being an expert on these matters I did not want to mess with the pump. So I undone the shower head, blocked it and run the shower, this seems to have cleared the air. My question is, is it likely that the problem will come back and if it does do do I need professional help?

If it's happened once, then it could happen again; it depends on how your pump supplies have been plumbed in.
To avoid problems, the pump should have dedcated supplies from your cold water storage cistern and the hot water tank that satisfy the pump manufacturer's instructions.

Typically this will mean the cold water from a dedicated tank connector well away from where the cold water fills it, and a hot water cylinder flange, to prevent aerated water from being drawn through the pump.
