I have a shower swith that hangs from the ceiling... is it true that leaving this on permanently (so the red light is on) uses electricity (other than that needed to light the bulb obviously)?
In most UK available showers if your shower switches are working properly, when switched off at the shower the heater element should not be powered up regardless of the setting of the pull switch.
It is not unknown for the shower switches to fail though - they are in quite a hostile environment - and I would recommend turning off at the pull cord to be sure. Leaving the heater on would be quite expensive.
What the previous post means to say is, you are correct (and the red "bulb" is a neon that uses very little electricity it is not worth mentioning)
BUT you should not do any work on the shower itself.(if for example you wanted to change it)
The shower only comes on when you turn / press the button (which ever you do)
