They normally come with a template. If you don't have the shower yet then you should be able to get hold of the manual on the web. And you should be able to find pipe center measurements etc...
Then is it usually a case of coming out in copper elbowing the pipe up and putting a 15mm compression to 1/2'' male on the pipe to accept the flexible connections to the shower?
