any thoughts on which is better to bed a stone tray; I've only fitted them with mortar before, but was told it's now common practice to bed on silicone - if so, how does one do it?. is it a case of using ordinary silicone and covering the whole of the bottom of ther tray, or just at the corners + spots in the centre. Is it as durable as mortar?
and if using mortar, should I add a waterproof/flexible additive to the mix?
many thanks
andrew

dont have any instructions unfortunately but it is a stone tray not resin
have some old cementone sbr - is it worth adding to the mortar mix to allow a bit of movement?

HI

I use mortar/sandcement under the tray to stop the tray from moving. once fitted use silicone on the sides/edges to prevent the water running down.

by the way how much silicone where you planning to use under the tray 15 or 20 kg ? :D

i tend to place a board on the floor and screw down, then silicone to the board...just some lines...about 1/2 tube in all ??...then as lunat i silicone the sides..not loads, just a generous line...incase it manages to run behind the tiles/grout/final silicone
