shower tray riser kit

Hi I have a shower tray to fit with a riser kit, and in the instructions it says, Some types of Gel coated stone resin shower trays and larger trays may require a close fitting plywood base as additional support (NOT supplied).

Can any one explain what this means?
 
Go with what the tray manufacturer recommends.
Most trays need to be fully supported with mortar beneath.
 
Yes but this tray has come with a riser kit ( legs etc ) so don't understand what an additional plywood base could mean.
