Shower waste instructions

I’m installing a shower tray and noticed a brush icon in the instructions labeled “PVC.” Do you know what this indicates?

Perhaps the bloke who wrote the instructions didn't realise it was a compression fitting. Or it was to indicate to decorators they would be painting PVC.
