is fitting a new mcb to cope with an electric shower , then fitting the cable to the switch then finally wiring the shower notifiable? is it strictly something that by law should be left to an electrician?
is this an easy diy job then or am i going to fry my self?
would it cost an arm and a leg to have an electrician do it?
its a temporary shower so it doesnt have to be tidy , the house is at first fix stage with exposed joists etc so it shouldnt be difficult.
Well then I gather notifying building control is on your list of things to do - I take it the work involved rewiring, in which case you MUST notify, or use a registered spark.
This is the only LAW regarding electrical work in domestic premises
no rewiring yet steve , replacing a ceiling , what i meant was its at the stage where wiring a shower would be easier than if the house were all finished , i notify bc about all my work , except pulling down a dodgy ceiling..
so are you saying i cant do this my self and it needs to be ran by BC? or do you mean rewiring the whole house? i also totally understand how a temp install needs to be as safe as a permanent one , it just doesn't have to be as difficult or as time consuming for the installer such as concealing the wiring and making good afterwards.
No, if you can satisfy the requirments of the LABC, they may not quite follow the guidelines themselves, imo a small job like that could cost you as much to notify to the LABC as it would to get an electrcian in to do the job and notify themselves. Check your LA website and see what the fees are for notifying electrical workm and be sure that they can and will test and certify the work for you as they should (some dont)
thank you , i didnt know they tested the work also but i suppose they have to really.a job like this is only an hour or so for a sparky isnt it? i shall make some calls and see what is the cheapest option , thanks again.
