have a water pressure problem which has come on gradual. quite slow flow down and upstairs, but if water on downstairs upstairs goes off, water very hot even though gauge set low, recenty replace 2 single radiators with doubles of same overall size could this be causing the problem or is more pressure needed in the system?

Its difficult for me to understand what you are trying to say.

It sounds as if the cold water flow into your house is reduced.

You should pressurise your system to about 1.5 bar cold.

there is plenty of cold water pressure coming throught the system. when i use cold water while hot is running the hot water goes to almost a trickle

If the hot water flow falls to a trickle then you cannot have plenty of mains flow into the property!

Hard water area?
Stuffed hw flow restrictor in boiler?

NB pressure in the boiler (on the gauge) is not connected with tap water pressure at all.
