single brick thickness walls and damp

Hi all, I’ve just had a survey report on a house we’re buying that needs modernising, the thing is the house has a lean too utility room that is part of the original building and we want to knock through from the kitchen to make a larger kitchen but the utility room is of single brick thickness and there is a lot of damp on the walls and the concrete floor. The survey said this can cause problems with penetrative damp and condensation and they recommend we get advice on upgrading the structure.
What would be the best thing to do to sort these problems out?

I know people do it but it's against building regulations, should have a double skin or a cavity wall and correct window unit and so on. Pop down to your local BCO for their free advice.
