I have been roped into replaceing run of copper on a single pipe heating system. I have not seen the job yet, but would like to know what I am looking at. Is there a way of replacing the length of copper without draining down (like in a vented system of bunging the tank)

Any help would be useful

Thanks

Is it a combi or vented system (with tanks in roof & copper cylinder)?

Either way, because you will probably have 2 open end of pipe when you remove the old section of pipe, you will need to drain down. Working on pipe work without draining down requires a vacuam to be formed. This may be difficult in your case.

If in doubt, drain down. Won't take much longer, and may save time/hassle in the long run.

you'll have to drain down when you flush so you might as well drain to do work

You could freeze the two places.

But whats wrong with draining down?

One wonders why a piece of pipe needs to be replaced!
