I have a problem in clearing a sink drain which copes with the normal sink but overflows when the washing machine empties. This is in a flat so accesss is difficult.
The drain runs from the back of the sink, through a couple of turns into the stack. The washing machine is connected upstream into the same 1.5 inch pipe run. The W/M has its own trap with upstand but the top of the upstand is below worktop height.
When the the washing machine empties, water comes up into the sink and eventually overflows out of the top of the upstand. Plunging dosn't seem to completely clear the partial blockage - the blockage must be about 6-8 feet away, near the conection to the stack. The stack is clear as the WC flushes fine.
How can I fully clear it ?
Would it be better to connect the W/M into a utility connection trap under the sink ?
