I am working my way through the rooms in my old house. Last year I skimmed a room after removing wallpaper. The finish still looks pristine.
Today I skimmed the ceiling in another room. As I put the finishing touches I noticed a blown area. I pulled the whole lot off and noticed it was attached to an old paint layer.
The house is old with lime plaster mostly, but I don't think the old paint was limewash, it seems more plasticky than that.
My prep was
1. Washed and loose stuff knocked off
Then PVA and bonding to few resulting holes.
2. PVA cracks 1:5
3. Plasterers tape over cracks
4. Next day PVA 1:1 then skim within 20 mins.
Now that the skim is off I'm tempted to start again, same method but now there's no old paint.
What should I do? The walls are also painted so I suppose my options are either scour all the surfaces to create a key or plasterboard everything.... Or was off my PVA and do a lime plaster skim.
