Hi Guys,

As the title suggests I want to skim over a Lath and plaster ceiling in my old house. The ceiling is pretty solid but has a few cracks.

What the best way to prep this before skimming? Shall I give it a coat of PVA(2to1) first?

As a side question - why do you use PVA before plastering? Is it just to seal the background to prevent/control suction?

Any tips greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Scrim tape your cracks first ,then go as you suggest with pva .

You pva for 2 reason ,1st coat a sealer coat , let this dry .Then another coat as your ready to plaster, just let it tack up the skim ,this gives a surface for the plaster to stick to .
