Having removed heavy anaglypta paper from the 80's from a dry wall leaving craters where the paint seal of the board has peeled off in certain areas.

What compound can I use other than plaster for a thin skim over to cover/fill the craters.

Could I use a filler compound thinned down or any other compound using a wide skim trowel etc.

You could try Toupret Decorator's Skim Coat. I've used this on rough lime-plastered walls, but it isn't cheap and plastering might prove to be more cost effective if you have a lot to do or you need to put more than about 4 or 5mm depth of material on. I'd ask the Mods to move this post to the Decorating section where you'll probably get a more detailed answer

Easifill is worth considering if it doesn't justify a full skim.
