Skirting boards

I am going to be taking off old skirting boards from a plasterboard wall, is it best to glue the new ones in place?

Just done my skirting boards with a little help from my joiner mate.

If the walls a perfectly straight and the boards will sit nice and flush then you can "no nails" them as there a no screw holes or any filling to do. But, like with my house, the walls are not straight so we drilled and screwed them in.

After i'd screwed them in i filled the holes with wood filled and now have stained the skirts and you cant see any holes.

If the house is fairly old (mine is 24 years) then i dare say the walls will not be straight.

Easiest way to find out just find the longest striaght edge you can and hold this up to the wall.

plasterboard walls are more likely to be flat than plastered brickwork.

I like skirting boards to be screwed on,as they are easier to take off for sanding when redecorating, but not many people would agree.
