I have a gap behind my skirting boards and though I would glue these in intervals and then glue the skirting boards to these. Perhaps pop a few screws into the skirting and wall too.

I am using the pink gripfill for these and I think because the surface is dusty, it’s not sticking. What do you recommend please?

Thanks in advance

I had some PVA. Diluted this and used this before I stuck the packers on with gripfill again. I know the instructions suggest 24-48 hours before it cures but it was still unset when I finished 6 hours after putting it on. Normal I suppose...

Also, which adhesive should I use to stick the skirting to these packers?

Finally, any problems with sticking a few screws in too? I was going to use my countersunk bit and put these screws into parts of the wall that don't have the wooden packers. I wont tighten too much as this may snap the skirting. I'd appreciate your validation of this approach.

I tried using 'No more nails' once to fit some skirting boards. Didn’t work and I had still had to stick a few screws in. My wife said that I must have picked up a tube of 'hardly any nails' by mistake.

you probably chose the smells like poo one rather than the sticks like poo one:D

My concern with the foam adhesive was the expansion. I've read a few people suggesting that it requires a knack. Instead I've opted for these packers. In my mind, I require some adhesive between these packers and the skirting. I don't think this needs to be foam as there isn't much gap.
Additionally, I will screw into the skirting and wall at intervals too.

Please feel free to shoot this down if it doesn't make sense.

If it does, I still need a recommendation for adhesive to bond the skirting and packers please. This perhaps:

Available at Toolstation, inexpensive and has very good reviews.

Thanks for your support.

Foam adhesive expands slightly, that’s why it’s so effective, it does not create any problems , couldn’t be easier to use .

The wall is constructed of bricks. I didn’t screw the packing to the wall as I though the gripfill gives me some flexibility to line this up - as show in this pic

I would now like to glue the skirting board to these pieces of wood and also screw it to the wall - but not through the packing as I’m concerned it may split and interfere with the gripfill

Get yourself some of these in different lengths along with plastic spacers from SF, best thing since sliced bread imo for fixing skirting ,door linings etc
