I am about to fit skirting boards in two bedrooms, my query is...how much of a gap do i leave below them in order for carpet fitter to fit carpets and tuck under. Cheers

Skirting boards get fitted tight to the floor. There was a gap between the floor and the existing skirting board, this gap was a shrinkage gap. The skirting boards and the floor boards shrink thus causing a gap to appear.
If you are using solid timber skirting this will also shrink, this is a fact of life my friend.
