Sky digital?

Hello all,

I've recently treated myself to a new 42" lcd tv, when setting the tv up it searches for any digital channels. The search came back as having found a big fat zero digital channels.

It then required switching to analogue to find the channels.

I was under the impression that sky was digital. Am I right in thinking that it should have found the digital channels.

I'm not that impressed with picture either, it's a bit blurry sometimes.
Was told that most 1080 pixel tv's require an Hd signal to get the benefit.

Is this true?

Your sky should come via scart unless you used the aerial connection on RF1 or RF2 on the back of the sky box.

It will only find digital terrestrial channels using the Digital tuner so you need to check that your aerial on your house is compatible and that you live in a Digital terrestrial area http://www.dtg.org.uk/consumer/coverage.html

Edit what make TV did you get? I find close up my Samsung looks a little blurry but from where is sit and watch the box its picture is amazing.

Sounds to me like someone baught a tv too big for the room...

Big tv`s are not always best.... Most people just go buy the biggest they can get for budget and dont even think about the possible issues. All manufactueres state a certain viewing distance for optimum picture image...

I know there is some kind of calculation on this, but cant remember what it is... I think it was something along the lines of 32" screens require a 4meter viewing distance.....

Defo worth checking with manufacturer

TO update... i found the info..

The CAO recommends that a person watch TV from a distance of 5x the width of the picture.

I put this theory to the test. The width of the picture literally means the width of the viewing screen on the television. Do not get this confused with the diagonal screen size. For example, a 42" TV screen is 42-inches diagonally from the bottom-left to the upper-right corners, but only about 3 feet wide at the base of the screen. This means that a person should watch TV on a 42" television from a distance of 15 feet.

This distance seems like a long way. It isn't. Considering a standard 4:3 19" TV is only 16" wide at the base, a viewing distance of about 6-7' is appropriate and not out of the ordinary.


Me thinks you need a bigger house / room.... 15feet is 5Meters.... I bet your sitting far too close....
