On a bit of a budget and need to choose some sleepers. I need c. 22 of the 100mm x 200mm x 2.4m ones. They will in contact with soil to make a 40cm high wall (laid widest side down) and, although I've never seen the area particular wet, I am worried about how long they last. I can choose between:

- untreated oak about 30 quid each
- treated softwood to class 3 20 quid each
- treated softwood to class 4 20 quid each but with a very high delivery charge

I like the oak look. How long do you think they will likely last compared to the treated softwood? I'm not even sure if it's longer or shorter. Does the class 3 treatment and class 4 treatment make a HUGE different? I will have to cut some and treat the ends myself so presume this will always be a weak point regardless?

thanks
