Hi, my sliding door will not open as the spindle keeps turning. How do I get the door to open?

I’m guessing I then need to replace the lock case and fit a new barrel

I don't know specifically.
I've seen the glass removed then holes drilled inside frame to get at the mechanism in windows to trigger and open it.
Some how you need to trigger the multi point locking..
Maybe get a firm in to sort. You will need a new casement lock which is another problem when you do open

Thanks,

I’ve got the tools and capability to drill it but not experience of hitting the right spot to release the mechanism.

How difficult is it? Is the sea below the spindle and will it take a few holes drilled?

If I get the door open then replacing the mechanism should be straightforward as I’ve replaced one before when the door was open.

I don't know.
I do know that the knowledge to do it is priceless.

if the spindle surround has broken I will guess you could use a wire to fish the latch catch maybe..

Has the spindle worn or the hole it goes through in the latch. If it's the former then obviously use a different spindle. If it's the latter then try turning it with a flat bladed screwdriver that you can jam in the hole.

It’s the spindle that keeps turning and doesn’t unlock the door, so I guess drilling it out is the only way. Just looking for direction where to drill or how to get the door open.

Thanks

Nope. I don't know...
Why not bite bullet and get firm in.

Is sounds like the square drive in the gearbox has cracked and fallen to pieces, usually because its been difficult to lock with the lever in the past and it's decided its had enough, unfortunately drilling anywhere will not alter the fact you cannot operate the internals to move the mushroom cams up or down, will prove very tricky to open and then there's the problem of securing it shut while you find a replacement but a lot of these 90s door gearboxes are obsolete now, mainly only universal are available now. The barrel would have been OK but it looks like you snapped it so yes a new barrel needed as well, probably a 30/30, might be a job for a window/door doctor

Sounds like the gearbox or lock mechanism has failed rather than the barrel itself. Try removing the handle and turning the spindle with pliers to see if the lock disengages. Once the door is open, you can inspect the lock case and replace any damaged parts.

Modern aluminium sliding systems, such as Tejsons doors, use high-quality locking mechanisms that are designed for smoother operation and long-term durability
