Hi all,

I'm thinking of making some shaker style sliding wardrobe doors and could use a bit of advice as to whether the materials would produce a stable construction.

Each door will be approx 900x2200mm, and will be on a bottom roller sliding track - probably this one http://www.bullerltd.co.uk/product/2330/

My plan is to build a solid wood outer frame around a single veneered panel, routing a slot in the centre of the frame for the panel in order to keep the weight central, then using a biscuit reinforced butt joint on the corners. Horizontal bars would be glued & screwed to the surface of the panel (front and back) to end up with a door something like this:

Would a 20x100mm solid wood frame and 6mm veneered MDF panel be suitable for this?

My better half is undecided on oak or american black walnut - not sure whether this would make a difference?

Thanks for any advice that anyone can offer.
Paul.
