Hiya,
My garage is being converted now.
The guys have done the base floor now & will do the laminate flooring tomorrow.

But I noticed a slop in the floor. When I keep a masking tape roll on one side, it rolls to the other end. And I measured the floor to windowsill height. It is 2 cm different at the two ends...

So the floor is not even.

Is this a big problem?
Is it easily rectifiable at the laminate flooring stage?
What do you guys suggest?

Just wanted to ask you guys before speaking to the builder...
Please help.
Thanks

That's quite a big difference, before you fit the laminate, have you tested the subfloor for moisture content? It normally takes a few weeks for the floor to dry sufficiently so you can lay flooring on it.

Thanks mate.
There is no moisture issue. The floor is dry.
My issue is the slope. and when they lay the laminate flooring, it will start to wobble & creek.

I have to ask them to sort it somehow...
Dunno how they could do it without creating a big job for them....

Do you know?

The floor will likely need a cement or repair mortar spreading and then a self levelling screed to finish, you'll need these layers to dry before you can lay the laminate, have you got a DPM in the floor already?

Yes, DPM is in place. Floor boards done. Only the laminate is left to go in...
Thanks for your help mate

I was assuming the floor was concrete!

If its a wooden floor there's not a lot you can do unless you batten the floor level! So long as the floor is even it won't be a problem to fit the laminate in top, it will have a slope in the room though!

Hi,
The builder is using cempolatex on nearly half of the floor area to make it level now.

Is this right?

Please respond...

Many Thanks

If the floor has been ply boarded you should be ok, if it's a basic chipboard construction, I wouldn't be so sure. Best to check direct with cempolatex Website/customer services and see what subfloor type it's suitable to be used on. Also check the depth at which it covers, I'd imagine you may need a couple of layers built up. Also check drying times, you may need to wait a while before fitting your laminate whilst the residual moisture fully drys out.

I don't personally have experience of cempolatex as a product/brand.

A quick look at their website says the product is suitable for use on rigid timber floors, call them Technical Enquiries/Customer Service +44 (0)1785 272625 They will tell you exactly what it is suitable for subfloor wise, 2cm is a lot of depth for a levelling compound to cope with, I can't imagine it's possible to cover 2cm in depth with one application.
