OK you have a iron (rainwater as it happens)pipe with a shoe @ the bottom - that shoe is bound to cause the flooding you describe -Easiest DIY fix for now is remove the grating and fashion a shroud out of something to go over the opening of the shoe and direct the water into the gulley. Later renew the lot in plastic - not expensive and the plastic clips stand the pipe further from the wall than iron pipe so you can't mix them easily. One day the iron pipe will split and have to go anyway
As Nige said. Get a piece of heavy duty polythene, fashion a sock out of it to attach to the shoe and direct the water where it should go. Secure to shoe with cable ties. Probably best to replace the grid with a plastic version and extend kitchen waste to discharge under the grid too.
