I have a 1760mm by 600mm double radiator
I have taken it off and hosed through it.
When I turned the heating on and bled it ( clear water ) it is hot on the top and coldish at the bottom.
is it worth trying a chemical flush. ??
If so what make. Shall I use.
Or consider getting a new rad. Metric. !! 1700mm by 600mm
Will the brackets need changing. ??

Just looking for advice.
thanks in advance

If you change it you would have to change brackets.
You would need one 60mm spacer or two 30 mm.
Have you tried running heating and turn off all other rads but problem one?

Did you give a good bang with a hammer or a rubber tool on an SDS drill.

also did you try reversing the flow through the rad and stop and start.

if it’s an upstairs radiator you could take up a floor board and adjust the tail positions for the new rad, or you could use some spacers as above.

Thanks
I did not tap it. Or reverse the hose. Will try though

Did the water run clear coming out the rad when hosed through if so then balance the system up

More likely your system just needs balancing..if you've got 10 to 20 degrees between the flow and return and the lower area is cold then that's probably sludge but it's a very rare occurrence.

The radiator needs specific quantity of water to output stated heat. Easy way to determine if radiator is getting the required amount of water is to feel how hot the inlet and the outlet pipes are that connect to the radiator.

Do this on other radiators which might be taking too much flow resulting in this big rad being starved of adequate flow.
New rad will do the same if flow issue exists- lack of system balance might be the cause
