Hello all,

I'm helping a mate out skimming a wall and he has a small area with exposed lathe. Area is no bigger than your fist.

How would you normally repair this? The existing plaster is skimmed quite thinly so you couldn't cut a piece of plasterboard into the gap and skim over as the plasterboard would be proud on the wall.

Not saying this is the answer by the way but would be interested to know what to do...could we just scrim over and skim, use polyfilla/similar and skim etc?

Cheers

Matt

A similar job to yours,, a bigger area maybe, but just use the same method below,,, apart from skimming the whole wall.

(1) Trim all around the patch/remove all loose bits/dust etc, especially in between the laths

(2) Wet all around the patch edges/over the laths etc, then brush on PVA.

(3) Rough in all round edges, then fill the patch up flush with Bonding undercoatcoat plaster. (Do it in 2 coats)

(4) Flush it off with a small straight edge. Let it set.

(5) Final part,,,, skim it over with a finishing plaster,,, (multi finish or similar)
There is no pic of this. This particular patch was skimmed over, in with the whole wall.
