Small retaining wall

Hi
I want to build a small L shaped wall about 1 meter high and the shorter part 1 meter to the bend then the longer part 2 meters long but reducing in height along the length. I will be outside in the garden and will have soil stacked against it to hold a small watercourse.

Can you advise me the best product to build it with. I love thermalite blocks because they are quick and easy but i assume they are not suitable.
