Dear all,

I replaced the thermocouple in my SMEG SUK 854 X oven just over 3 years ago with a genuine/original replacement (which cost ~ £35 at the time)....it's now broken again!

I can get another genuine part for £40

but was just wondering if anybody knew if I could get away with using a compatible/universal one which would not only be a lot cheaper to start with but also in the long run (especially considering if I have to keep replacing them every 3 years!). If so, could you please post a link for a replacement part.

Thanks for any help/advice.

My thermocouple decided to go on Christmas Day - nice!

I've been doing some research and looks like you can get an orig replacement at servevastdirect.co.uk

They don't have a replacement for the 854 but do for other 80cm models.
I would bet on them being compatible, and there only about £10-12.

Today I went to B&Q and bought a universal central heating thermocouple which looked identical. However, tryinh to replace it, I found the locking not at the knob end was slightly to big, and the whole length was about 1cm too short.
