Smell from toilet?

Hi,

I have recently noticed when letting out the bath water there is a smell of drains appearing, it seems to be around the toilet area and there is a gurgling noise also around the toilet area whilst the bath is draining.

Could there be a blockage in my toilet which is only noticed when water i drained from the bath? Toilet, basin and shower are all functioning fine and this smell only crops up when bath is emptied.

Does the smell appear while the bath is emptying, or afterwards?

If afterwards, have you checked the water level in the WC pan?

If the water appears to have dropped, it's possible that the bath flow is such that it's drawing some of the water seal from the WC trap.

I would start by inspecting the condition of your soil and drainage venting arrangements. Does your soil stack continue vertically upwards and emerge above gutter height?

Smell is usually after emptying bath and water level seems fine.

Soil stack is definately above gutter.

Is there also a basin in that room?
