hi im a newcomer to this board , so hello./

my son in law, has a new pugeot 307 / and has been getting bad smells inside the car, so he took it back to dealers / they had it for a couple of days and said it was air conditioning and it was now sorted.
he has had it back a week or so, and it still smells/
so back to the dealers, who now say it was rain getting in rear lights.and is sorted./ [ the carpet was wet/damp/ ]

but he thinks its the electrics, so we would be pleased to here from anyone who has had same problem or or heard of it. cheers./ r.r.

Quite likely if the carpet has got wet the car will stink.

Underneath the carpet is another layer of underlay, which helps in soundproofing etc and when it gets damp it acts like a sponge.

Consequently, when the leak is fixed, no more moisture can get in, but the moisture cannot evaporate either as it is underneath the carpet and it starts to stink.

Did a few Mondeo's back in the 90's that leaked through the pollen filter housing, soaking the carpet. Had to remove the carpet in full and try and dry out the underlay. Ended up replacing it as we could not get rid of the smell.

If the car is under warranty, then the dealer has to repair any problems caused by a leak from the rear tail light be that a soaked carpet or whatever.
